Equipment used to give an efficient and clean sweep
Clean dust sheets

I use plenty of polythene backed dust sheets. The fireplace or burner will be fully sheeted once I've inspected it, and I lay sheets across the floor from the threshold to the fireplace.

Brushes and rods

I have various brushes and rods which I'll select from depending on what sort of appliance I'm sweeping.  After fitting these together I'll sweep the full flue lining up to the exit of the chimney pot or bird guard.

High efficiency vacuum cleaner

This is put in place and switched on before I start sweeping, so that all the soot and debris is drawn out of the chimney and safely contained.

CCTV inspection

A specialist CCTV camera kit is available, robust enough to be sent up a chimney.  It sends pictures back to a monitor, which can be viewed immediately or recorded.

CCTV inspections can check for various problems with a chimney flue, including blockages from bird’s nests or broken masonry, or to check that there are no faults with the chimney lining.  Sometimes an insurance company may request this sort of inspection as part of a site survey too.

If you have any concerns about your chimney, we recommend a CCTV inspection.  You can not only see the pictures transmitted at the time, but keep a copy of the footage if needed.
